Yamahaugland Cafe Racer

 I thought I would play around with the colour scheme and came up with this one to match my spitfire. I think it looks good but then again I am colour blind so it might look awful to normal sighted people. A bit reminiscent of Ducati yellow (maybe).  

    I was originally going to make the seat by first making a foam version then using that to make one in fibreglass, however I discovered that the cost of the fibreglass was more than buying a seat. Then I found this one on Finn and I decided that it is not only much better than anything I could make but cheaper too. I me took some measurement of the frame and drew it to scale using GeoGebra. I then imported it to Algodoo where I compared the frame to the drawing of the seat. The red lines are the existing frame and the blue ones where it should be to accept the seat. I think that all I need to do is cut and bend. I also superimposed the seat onto the bike frame. I think the dimensions are pretty perfect. The only tricky opasrt will be to weld some new support struts sine I will have to cut away the strut that goes from the body of the frame to the end of the seat.

For various reasons I haven't been able to work on the bike but have been buying some parts online.  Yes, it starts. I assumed that because the battery was strong enough to turn the engine then it would be strong enough to produce a spark. WRONG. I used jump leads to connect to the battery on my spitfire and after a few minutes and remembering to apply choke it started. The kill switch didn't work to stop the engine and for some reason I didn't think of simply switching of the ignition with the key which resulted in a bit of a panic trying to stop the engine but I disconnected the fuel pipe and it stopped after a minute or two. So now I have verified that it runs I can get on with the strip down. In the end all the troubleshooting was unnecessary, however, f I hadn't thought there was a problem I wouldn't have learnt so much about how the ignition system works.

 I wanted something to get my teeth stuck into and I have bitten.  The past couple of days I have been in the garage well before 0600 and I spend most of my computer time watching instructional videos. Two days ago I was struggling to remove the fairing and posted a question asking for help on a Facebook forum. I got some very helpful replies but I also got this. Not exactly helpful. I guess some people just don't like changes to the original.  I knew that the bike wouldn't start when I bought it, that's why it was so cheap. I think it might be a good idea to try and get it running before stripping it down completely. I started by checking for a spark and there wasn't one. The solenoid is working as is the starter motor and the battery is charged. Maybe it's the coils, Google search and I borrow a multimeter from my old physics lab. Went to Bergen with Kendall to pick up the bike in his van.  Met Rowan who helped load it. Bike ready for the start of the project.  Tomorrow I will try to get it started!
